FALLING IN LOVE IS ACTUALLY JUST FINDING A NAME by ZOE BLAIR-SCHLAGENHAUF

the promise land is the circle k when I need coffee
the promise land is my shadow in the Arizona sun
when it makes me look like the person I want to be
the promise land is your face when I finally figure out what to call you

its couples kissing on my Instagram feed
it is photos of new born babies posted by my Facebook friends
it is you squeezing my hand
even when you are about to leave

its that heckin pigeon
who has the gaul to sit real close to me
even though it is probably afraid and
i am too

it is a cemetery full of fake flowers
bc we can only handle so much death.
