THE COMING AND GOING OF STRANGERS by B. BASSETT

hoping to be more

intimate

with myself &

otherpeople

open|shut

muted exchanges

this is new for

                       me

staying

wounds so fresh

they burn

there is a lesson

here

come for me

coming to

gripping the bed|post

feeling

it

myself

coming still

it makes its way

through

the whole of

                me

     •

fingertips

like

death

creep down my

body

it’s satisfying

but it doesn’t

last

another one

making their way

     strange people

seem to be made

of

hands and

genitalia

boundless|limbs

I am always

hungry

but indecisive

I try to

         disappear

but it’s too late

entwined and inside

of otherpeople

inside of me

for different

reasons

you come

and

you go

leaving you

for other

people

loving myself

for other

reasons

becoming myself

in this

moment
