Broken by Peter Leight

I’m not touching anything
I’m not breaking
it’s no trouble at all
I believe my fingers are thickening
at the tips like buds breaking
open I don’t even know
if it’s enough if it’s broken
or if it’s broken enough
when I touch something
I’m not waiting for it to break
or disregarding it when it’s broken
honestly I don’t even know
what it means to be broken
or what it’s like when it doesn’t
mean anything to be broken
like a line break when
you continue on the next line
as if it’s no trouble at all

Peter Leight has previously published poems in Paris Review, AGNI, Beloit Poetry Review, Raritan, Matter, and other magazines.
