THE CRITERIA BY WHICH MY MOTHER SELECTS A FATHER FOR HER CHILD | Nicole Lourette

He has to be a white man,
under six feet
mid-forties
intelligent
a George Clooney chin

no food allergies
a taste for jazz music
double-jointed
the right kind of white,
not too pasty
or easily burned by the sun.
An Italian would be nice.

The child is to be made
in a plastic tube,
or is it a Petri dish?

She enjoys checking the boxes,
choosing the right ingredients.

Tells herself
he will grow to love it.
