Untitled I by sef adeola

sef adeola is a Nigerian Illustrator and Textile Designer who uses cave art and Yoruba textile design motifs in his work. He began his art journey from secondary school taking Fine Art for 6 years then going on to understudy Nigerian Artist and Educator, St. Andrew who was taught by Nigerian Art Master, Yusuf Grillo.

Through the use of silhouettes (inspired by African Cave Art and Early Egyptian Art) and a fondness for pattern designs inspired by the works of William Morris and the Yoruba Textile Design patterns by Nike Okundaye-Davies, sef seeks to create illustrations that have vibrant backgrounds with different connotations and a foreground that captures the soul of the narrative. Sef works mostly in the realm of Editorial and Narrative Illustration for written works – Literature and Journalism Pieces. Sef’s work focuses on narrating the experiences of African people.

His illustrations have been commissioned by different literary and political magazines such as Lolwe, The Continent, Minority Africa, The Believer etc. He has a post graduate diploma in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos. You can see more of his illustrations here: sefadeola.com
