i spent 3 hours by Maeve Vitello

watching a YouTuber
document the history of Minecraft speedrunning.

another day my date tells me
a dream of studying
film archival work
so she can
preserve porn.

we go to a museum
of posters
and learn about a viral ad campaign
that predates my birth.
      i am transported.

my primary partner describes
an appalachian horror podcast i keep meaning to listen to
and we watch another video on cryptids

and i watch something about the storytelling of professional wrestling
and a reenactor shows me 18th century cooking
and a man solves a sudoku with no given digits
and i am so happy to share these things with you now.

i love to live
in this world of stupid beautiful things
we manage to care about so much.

Maeve Vitello (they/them) is an artist, writer, and law student from Cleveland, Ohio. They write at the intersection of queerness, radical politics, and the midwest, and hope to give each of those identifiers the nuance and conversation with one another they are often deprived of. When they aren’t writing, they are dancing, playing elaborate board games and trading card games, or going down Youtube special interest rabbit holes.
